A friend of mine homebrews. For his most recent beer I helped him make it. What started off as a plain old milk stout turned into the most potent beer I’ve ever drank.

Fermenting
This is where things started getting interesting. My friend bought a bourbon barrel to have the beer sit in for a couple months. This changes the flavor and increases the alcohol content.
Preparing to extract
Extracting. Some went into a keg and some bottles. They’ll be conditioning for a few more weeks to gain some carbonation.
Three samples.
It’s a very nicely flavored beer, although it’s very bourbony. Smooth and very strong.

This reminds me of grad school. One of the labs had yeast fermenters for research, but it was known that anyone in the department could try their and at a beer batch as long as they kept it quiet. They would serve the stuff at grad student parties. I’d be handed a bottle of the darkest black with a centimeter of yeast at the bottom.

I had a real college class called the chemistry of winemaking.
We had to make our own beer/wine.... The last 2-3 weeks was sampling each other’s creations.
Since college I brewed a few times since but haven’t in at least 10 years.
Home brewing is fun and easy to do. I still have all my gear stored in my garage, I think i’m due to brew again soon.

Maltipoo, I think. He is a poodle mix, I do know that.

Yeah, this stuff is very, very strong. Maybe not even suitable for full bottle consumption in one sitting.

Yeah. On its own it was probably going to be a 6% ABV or so. Now, it’s at least triple that. That usually doesn’t happen when you bourbon barrel age a beer.
